To review the availability of foodgrains and other essential commodities including petroleum products and issues relating to transport and legal meteorology department in Kashmir valley, a high level meeting was convened on Sunday under the chairmanship of Minister for CA&PD and Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon.

Expressing satisfaction over the availability of essential goods and petroleum products, the Minister said that buffer stock of Rice, Sugar and Wheat is available in the godowns of CA&PD, besides availability of LPG, K-oil, Diesel and petrol. He said essential commodities have already been dumped in the far flung and border areas of the valley which will cater the need of local public till June 2013. He said the areas include Karnah, Keran, Machil of district Kupwara and Gurez and Tulail areas of Bandipora district.

Giving the statistical data regarding the availability of essential commodities, the Minister was informed that 28481 Mts rice, 8314 Mts wheat/atta, and 1446 Mts sugar is available in the central godowns of CA&PD and stores of FCI.

Regarding supply of LPG, the Minister was informed that 273550 gas cylinders are available at present in the valley which includes 2.55 lakh cylinders of HPCL, 12950 cylinders of BPCL and 5600 cylinders of IOCL. He was also informed that supply of diesel and petroleum is sufficient for one month and 3 weeks respectively.

Reviewing the achievements of Legal Meteorology, the Minister was informed that Rs. 41.88 lakh have been realized  from 2938 erring shopkeepers against whom cases were registered for violating the law.

Referring the Transport system in the valley, the Minister stressed upon the concerned officers to ensure that transport shall play on the city and district roads till late in the evening. He also enjoined upon the officers to make ensure that rate lists of transport fare shall be displayed in all big and small vehicles. He also directed for implementation of 50 percent concession in favour of students and specially abled persons.

The meeting among others was attended by Director CA&PD, Joint Controller, Legal Meteorology, RTO Kashmir, General Manager FCI, SRTC and other concerned officers.
