JAMMU: At least four militants who had infiltrated into Kashmir were killed in an overnight operation, police said. The encounter took place in Dulanja village of Uri which is at a stone’s throw from the LoC.

Details revealed that the army detected the infiltration and started a quick operation with police and the paramilitary forces late last night.State Police Chief Dr S P Vaid said the slain four militants belonged to Jaish-e-Mhammad (JeM) outfit. He said three militants were kill din the initial fight and their fourth accomplice was killed later in a separate battle.

Reports from Uri said the encounter has taken place somewhere very close to the no man’s land near Dulanja. The village is the first village on the LoC and is visible from the Kaman Post, the main crossover from J&K to PaK.

The area is still in cordon and searches are under way, reports said. It was not immediately known if the cross LoC bus will be permitted.

Police said there were reports that the number of infiltrators were five in number. But so far three corpses have been recovered.
