Srinagar: Without power supply for nearly a month, citizens, mostly women, on Tuesday blocked Srinagar-Bandipora road at Hajin area of district Bandipora.

Scores of the protestors assembled at Srinagar- Bandipora main road demanding for replacement of the damaged transformer in Khos Mohallah of Hajin Bandipore.

The protesters, mostly women, staged a dharna in front of PDD office Hajin located near local Police Station and disrupted traffic movement for hours.

“The transformer was damaged a month back plunging our area in darkness. We approached all concerned authorities but they did not give ear to our requests”,  Zeba Begum, an elderly woman, who was leading the protesters, told Kashmir Wire.

Shouting slogans against PDD department, they demanded replacement of the damaged transformer immediately.

The protestors said that they will not lift the dharna till the authorities replace the transformer as they have been deprived of power supply for the last one month. The PDD will come with the bills later this month but how can we pay the bills when the power supply was not provided? They asked.

The dharna was going on when last reports were received. (Kashmir Wire)
