Army on Thursday paid befitting tributes to two of its men who were killed during two separate operations in Kupwara on November 21 and 22 2017.

In a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Corps Commander, Chinar Corps and all ranks paid homage to the martyrs on behalf of a proud nation. In a show of solidarity, officials and representatives from the Jammu and Kashmir Government and other agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the slain.

Jitender Kumar, 23 years of age sustained bullet injuries during a fierce operation in Zarhama (Kupwara) on 21 Nov 2017 while trying to intercept a group of LeT militants. Kumar had joined Army in 2014 and hailed from Village Shaulana, Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh. He is survived by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Mandeep Singh was killed in a counter infiltration operation along Line of Control in Keran Sector (Kupwara). One militant attempting to infiltrate was killed in this operation. Singh, 32 years of age, hailed from village Chahal Khurd in Gurdaspur, Punjab and had joined Army in 2004. He is survived by his wife and a son.

The mortal remains of the slain were flown for last rites to their native places, where they would be laid to rest with full military honours.
