Srinagar

Hurriyat (M) on Monday said the people of Jammu and Kashmir will not tolerate any attempt to damage or harm the special status of state and that will oppose “tooth and nail” any move aimed at changing the demography.

In a statement, a spokesman cautioned that any such move will further worsen the situation and make things from bad to worse.

While commenting on the reports about the file regarding 35-A going missing, he said that it hardly makes any difference whether the file goes missing or remains at its place, the fact remains that J&K has a special status by virtue of Article 370 and any change in this status is unacceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“New Delhi seems to be hell bent upon changing the Muslim majority character of the State and to snatch the rights of the people and now the judicial system of India is being exploited to achieve this objective,” said the spokesman.

The spokesman said it is a universally known fact that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory, the fate of which is yet to be decided as there are 18 resolutions pending implementation in the United Nations.

In a reference to Delhi, the spokesman said under Article 35-A, J&K citizens enjoy special state subject rights and those trying to scrap should keep in mind that all the efforts aimed at damaging the special status will face a stiff resistance.

The spokesman said that the people of Kashmir are struggling for a just cause since past 70 years despite facing hardships and huge sacrifices and they will not hesitate to give any sacrifice for the protection of their rights.
