Authorities have decided to impose restrictions in some parts of the Srinagar city on Sunday to thwart the proposed protest rallies on the eve of the first death anniversary of Parliament attack convict, Mohammad Afzal Guru.

Sources said that some parts of old city and upper town would witness restrictions.

Meanwhile authorities have enhanced its surveillance in the whole city especially in Lal Chowk, Maisuma, Hari Singh High Street, Safa Kadal, Nowshera, Habba Kadal, Mahraj Gunj, Maisuma, Abi Guzar, Nowhatta, Rajourikadal aKhanyar.

Meanwhile a government spokesman in a statement said that in order to ‘maintain peace and also to safeguard the life and property of the public’, District Magistrate Bandipora has ordered imposition of Section 144 Cr PC in Bandipora and Sonawari Tehsils with effect from FGebruary 09, 2014 from 7 a.m.

The statement said that order will remain in force up to February 11, 2014. As per the order, assembly of congregation of more than five persons and taking out any procession without prior permission from concerned authorities has be3en banned for these 3 days in both the Tehsils.

“The Superintendents of Police Kupwara and Handwara have been directed to implement the orders strictly,” the statement said.

The government statement also said that in order to ‘maintain law and order’ in the Kupwara district with effect from February 09 to 11, 2014, District Magistrate Kupwara has ordered imposition of Section 144 Cr PC in Kupwara town, Trehgam, Kralpora, Sogam, Lalpora, Drugmulla, Handwara town, Langate and Kralgund.
