Delhi newspaper Hindustan Times has reported that an Android-based mobile phone game called Burhan Vs Modi is a rage among youngsters in the Valley.

“Local residents say the game – seen now on almost every youth’s phone – indicates the popularity of Wani, whose death sparked widespread clashes with police,” the newspaper reported. The teenage rebel Wani, credited for creating an indigenous militant module, apparently without the help of Pakistan, was a huge teen icon and was killed in an encounter with army in July. His killing with two of his colleagues pushed Kashmir into an unrest that is still hitting Kashmir hard, more than 115 Days later.

The newspaper said the rebel seemingly has been “resurrected in the form of a popular video game in Kashmir”.

The game user picks Wani’s character and goes for hitting figures  “resembling Prime Minister Narendra Modi” to win points and advance. His advance has Azaadi songs as background and the character uses kicks, shoots and punches to eliminate Modi-lookalikes. “The game has six stages with ten levels each,” the newspaper said. “The developers of the game remain anonymous but when the game begins, photos of two Kashmiri youngsters come up with a caption that reads ‘creator of the game’.” It said that some individual is named for the credits too.

The newspaper quoted a police officer saying that they are investigating the case. “The name of a certain man comes in the credit section and we have narrowed down on him,” the police officer has told the newspaper. “He is from south Kashmir.”
