The additional 30 companies of CRPF that flew to join their colleagues in Kashmir have not been briefed adequately about the prevailing situation. Seemingly, they have not been briefed as well.

It was visible on Sunday morning when a newly inducted CRPF unit that was on way to Pulwama opened fire on stone-pelters at Parigam, the first village of the district when one leaves Khandah, the last village of Budgam district. This led to the almost instant death of Irfan Malik and triggered a series of protests.

This was second casualty in the crowd management in Pulwama district, so far. Late last night, informed sources said one boy died after he was hit by a shell in Below village. The village on the periphery of Rajpora houses a CRPF unit. A crowd attacked the camp and was in the process of dismantling its fencing that cops burst tear smoke shells. One of the shells hit the boy identified as Mohammad Altaf Rather. He died in the hospital later.

Police sources said they are “exhibiting maximum restraint” so that there are no civilian casualties. Sunday noon a big mob attacked police station in Lassipora and set afire at least three vehicles within the courtyard. Cops fired tear smoke shells and pellet guns and avoided using bullets, officials said.

There have not been any violations of the curfew restrictions in Tral, Awantipora and main Pulwama town but there are incidents of clashes in highway town of Pampore. Paramilitary men have reportedly opened fire.
