Right wing Hindu nationalist BJP leader Ram Madhav Sunday termed as “unfortunate and saddening” the loss of lives in clashes in Kashmir over the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani and said “non-lethal ways of tackling such protests should be developed”.

The party General Secretary, who is BJP’s point man on J&K, also said the “police too suffered heavily, and restraint and calm should be the motto of people and police”.

“People in the valley should help bring normalcy. Restraint and calm should be the motto of people n police. Government wants peaceful and terror-free J&K for progress. Loss of lives in South Kashmir unfortunate and saddening. We have to develop non-lethal ways of tackling such situations. Police too suffer heavily,” he tweeted.

Madhav had yesterday asserted that an “uncompromising fight against terrorism is important for Jammu and Kashmir’s development and government will stand firm eruption or no eruption”.

At least 16 civilians have died in firing by forces in south Kashmir on Saturday and Sunday.
