Srinagar: A local magazine called Vangaar (Challenge) – published from Punjab – featured Hizb-ul-Mujahideen’s poster boy Burhan Wani, on its front page, wearing a military fatigue and holding a gun.

The magazine, which described Burhan as the ‘Hero of Freedom of Kashmir’ was sold during aShaheedi Jor Mela in Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab.

Burhan’s killing on July 8, 2016, triggered six month long protests in Kashmir leaving over a hundred youngsters dead, and over a thousand injured by pellets.

New Delhi based Indian Express reported that a total of 10 lakh people are expected to congregate at the mela between December 25 and 27.

The said mela is held annually to commemorate the martyrdom of Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh, the young sons of the tenth Sikh master, Guru Gobind Singh.

The magazine was sold at a big stall manned by supporters of SAD (Amritsar), near the Rauza Sharif, amidst other materials including books, car stickers, badges on Khalistani militants including Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

In August 2016, a month after Burhan’s killing, Vangaar, a pro-Khalistan moment magazine ran a cover story on Burhan.

The 42-page magazine carries two articles on Burhan and a special message on Azadi from Jagtar Singh Hawara, who was convicted in the Beant Singh assassination cases.

The articles on Burhan have been written by Gajinder Singh of Dal Khalsa and Baljeet Singh Kha
