A shutdown was observed in various parts of the Chenab valley including Bhaderwah, Doda, Kishtwar, Thatri and Gundoh against a plea in the Supreme Court seeking abrogation of Article 35-A which confers special rights on J&K’s permanent residents.

The call for shutdown was given by Anjuman Islamia Bhaderwah, Markazi Seerat Committee Doda, Anjuman Islamia Gandoh, Masjid Committee Thathri and Majlis-e-Shoura Kishtwar had also supported the bandh call against “assault” on state’s special status and “efforts” to abrogate Article 35-A.

Shops, other business establishments remained closed, however government schools and offices functioned normally and traffic plied on the roads as usual.

President Anjuman Islamia Bhaderwah Pervaiz Ahmed Sheikh strongly criticized the NDA government for making an attempt to abrogation of Article 35-A and said questioning the special status of J&K will in fact put a question mark on the accession itself.
