Coming down heavily on the PDP-BJP government over its lack of will to govern, National Conference on Wednesday viewed with concern the fast deteriorating scenario in parts of the State, leading to developmental slow-down and drop in tourism activity.

“Peace has become a huge causality and credibility of the government has taken a nose dive”, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana said while addressing a day-long party convention at Ramban.

In a statement, he charged the coalition government of allowing the situation to drift as a result of which influx of tourists has significantly come down, leaving those dealing in tourism trade in lurch. “Jammu and Kashmir is essentially a tourist cum pilgrim destination and peace is pre-requisite for its growth and overall economic activity”, he said, adding that the achievement on normalcy front by the previous government has been wasted by reckless policies. He said after a long spell of uncertainty, tourism in Kashmir had picked up significantly thus bringing cheer in the lives of people, especially those associated with tourism trade.

The Provincial President also expressed dismay over the half-hearted approach adopted by the coalition dispensation in tackling the issues confronting to flood sufferers and described the symbolism just as eyewash. “Instead of mitigating their problems, restoring various utility services damaged by the floods and incessant rains, the government is doing politics over the miseries of people,” he added.

Rana said the coalition government has nothing to offer except exploiting public sentiment by raking up frivolous and contentious issues. “These have nothing to do with day to day problems being faced by the people”, he said adding that each segment of society has been suffering on one count or the other. While the daily wagers have been forced to come on streets, the Anganwari workers are running from pillar to post for want of their salaries, he said, adding that other spheres of governance have been relegated to least priority.

The Provincial President lauded the resilience and steadfast approach of the workers at grass roots level in highlighting the issues of immense public importance and seeking their redressal. He hoped that the people will be apprised about the massive effort taken by Omar led government in enhancing the quality of life by taking up various path breaking initiatives, which stand negated by the current coalition dispensation.
