Central Reserve Police Force personnel guarding a polling booth in restive Palhalan area of Pattan town in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district Tuesday thrashed a photojournalist without any provocation.

Eyewitnesses told CNS that the photojournalist Bhat Zahoor associated with a local news paper was performing his duty when some CRPF personnel demanded identity card from him. “As I was showed my identity card to them, they pounced upon me and beat me to pulp. I failed to understand why they did this,” Bhat alleged and said that even some local policemen following the footsteps of CRPF personnel hit him and tried to snatch his camera.

The scribes mostly photo journalists alleged that CRPF personnel did not honour the authority letter issued to them by Information Department. They condemned the CRPF brutality and demanded action against the erring forces personnel.
