The detention of Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has been extended, once again.

Mirwaiz is under arrest since July 08, 2016 evening – hours after popular militant commander Burhan Wani was killed by forces in Bemdoora area of South Kashmir.

“The police have got remand for detention of Mirwaiz Sahab extended up to 31st October,” Hurriyat Conference (m) media advisor, Adv Shahid Ul Islam, told Kashmir Life on Monday afternoon.

Mirwaiz has been detained in a hut-turned-sub-jail at Chasma Shahi for over 45 days now. Earlier, police had detained him at his Nigeen residence.

Shahid said that the government is only allowing Mirwaiz’s family to meet hi. “He has been put under solitary confinement,” he said.

Mirwaiz was arrested on August 26 after continuous house detention since July 8.

Kashmir is witnessing an uprising which has already crossed hundred days during which at least 94 civilians have been killed while thousands of others have been injured. Over 500 have been booked under notorious Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted out of Kashmir valley.

Mirwaiz, along with Syed Ali Geelani and Muhammad Yasin Malik, is spear heading the on-going uprising. All the top resistance leaders have been detained along with their activists.
