In what can set a tradition, senior cabinet minister and economist turned PDP lawmaker, Dr Haseeb A Drabu Wednesday early morning boarded Qazigund bound rail at its Nowgam station.
Sources said that Finance Minister, Dr Drabu along with his team of around forty officials left their vehicles at the railway boarding station and boarded the rail to reach Southern far end of Kashmir.
The Finance Ministerial team led by Dr Drabu has already started a review meeting of customs and taxes at Lower Munda.
“Around 7 in the morning when I was about to board Qazigund bound train to reach my office in South Kashmir’s Islamabad, I found Dr Haseeb Drabu along with his dozens of officials sitting amongst other passengers; On enquiring, it was known that Dr Drabu led team was on its way to Lower Munda for some official work,” said an official who identified himself as a resident of Srinagar and is posted in Islamabad district.
The fellow passengers believed that the move by a minister of the rank of Dr Drabu can set an example for others to follow. “It should be not just for one day or photo shoots; the high profile minister should join commoners in day-to-day life,” the official added.
