In his first interaction with the media persons in Srinagar, IGP said that “everybody including the VIP’s must follow the traffic rules. “I won’t tolerate the norm violation at all,” he said, adding that he has successfully streamlined the traffic system in Jammu and will continue to do so here.

IGP said that there is mismanagement in traffic and it will take some time to control the situation, adding that the female passengers who would be seen standing in the busses would not be tolerated. “It stands my responsibility to ensure seats for the female passengers in minibuses but people have to cooperate in this regard,” he said.

Reacting to the habit of wrong parking, IGP said that such violators who park their vehicles anywhere and create the problem for management would also be dealt strictly.

Stressing the need for the cooperation from the public IGP said, “The traffic mess can only be sorted if the public cooperates with police.”

“Whatever is happening cannot be changed in one go but it would take time,” he said, adding that he personally has three priorities that include to curb the overloading, ensure seats for female passengers and to make traffic cops accountable.
