Directorate, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Kashmir Wednesday informed that the department is making best efforts to ensure the availability of food grains at every nook and corner of the State.

In a statement Spokesman clarifying on a news report published in a newspaper on Wednesday, the Director FCS&CA Kashmir assured that rice, atta, sugar, kerosene oil and LPG is available in adequate quantity everywhere in Kashmir province, including remote and border areas of Ladakh, Gurez, Karnah, Machil, Keran, Tangdhar.

He informed the food grains, and petroleum products have already been duped abundance till May 2018 in these remote areas. Dumping of food grains has been made in full for 500 sale centres in Kashmir valley, which will suffice upto ending of March 2018, where there is heavy snowfall, he added.

In a statement giving breakup about the food grains provided to the beneficiaries, the Director said that every soul under NFSA is entitled to 5 kg of foodgrains including rice and atta 5kg per soul under MMSFES subject to a maximum of 35kg per month to each family in plain areas and 50kg per month per family in border areas where production of food grains negligible. The department is also distributing atta in every district as per the permissible scale and the rationees are at liberty to take either rice or Atta or both. However, for Kashmir Division the ratio of rice and Atta is 95% and 5% respectively under NFSA and Atta is not provided under MMSFES. The Atta is preferably distributed more in hilly areas where its demand is high.

It was further revealed that the department is also regularly distributing sugar among the Priority Household (AAY, BPL and PHH) a scale of 500 grams/soul on the subsidized rates of Rs. 25/- per Kg. The department has already released 598621.65 qtls of food grains (rice and Atta) for the month of December.

“Similarly, Sugar to the extent of 19808 qtls for the month of December has been released out of which 16000 qtls have been made available at the sale centers as on date. Beside kerosene oil to the extent of 3000 kls has already been released for the month of December 2017.”

“It was further revealed that during the month of October and November 2017, the Directorate has issued 3000 Kls (30 lac liters) each in Kashmir Valley. The distribution of the same is monitored in every district through the Assistant Director and other officials of the department.”
