The historic 86-km-long Mughal road remained closed for the second day on Tuesday due to fresh snowfall, while the highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir and 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu highway were through for traffic.

Traffic on the Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch through Bafliaz was again suspended on Tuesday following a fresh snowfall, a senior traffic police official told Kashmir Life.

There is one to one and a half feet fresh snowfall on the highway, particularly at Pir-ki-Gali and shooting stones at certain places, he said, adding that the district administration from both sides have started snow clearance operation. There was fresh snowfall and rain during the past 24 hours due to which the road has become very slippery. However, he said, the traffic will be allowed only after the road become safe for the journey.

He said only one-way Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) would be allowed on the road to avoid any accident or traffic jam as the road is still very narrow at some places and the vehicles had to pass through big snow walls on both sides. Today traffic was scheduled to ply from Shopian towards Bufliaz, he said, adding that no vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction.
