SRINAGAR: At least two persons were killed in Gulmarg when a pine tree was uprooted and hit the cable car. Three others are injured but critical.

Though the details are hazy and unclear, reports said speedy winds uprooted a pine tree and it hit the cable car. One Gandola was derailed and fell down with the tourists. The exact location of the accident was not immediately known but it has been the first phase of the cable car. This is first major accident to the profit making cable car project, the main attraction in Gulmarg.

Though reports said all the five persons including a local guide and four tourists have died but it was not immediately confirmed. “I am told two are dead and others are critical. These include a tourist couple and their kids,” Mehmood Ahmad, Director Tourism told Kashmir Life. “I am rushing to the spot and it will take me a bit of time.”

Rescue operations are under way, reports said adding the winds have seriously damaged a tower of the project.
