SMC workers cleaning muck from Brari Nambal.

The State Government has said that it is serious about the restoration of pristine glory of Brari Nambal Lagoon that is on the verge of extinction.

Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh said that the conservation and beautification of Brari Nambal Lagoon has been approved in State Annual Action Plan 2016-17 for Srinagar city under AMRUT at an estimated cost of Rs 16.91 Crores. He said that the DPR stands approved and the work is likely to be tendered this month.

Pertinently, unabated encroachments and pollution have drastically affected the flora and fauna of Brari Nambal lagoon of Dal Lake here, pushing the water body to the verge of extinction. (CNS)
