A Hurriyat Conference (m) spokesperson on Saturday strongly condemned the imposition of curfew and restrictions in parts of Srinagar including Old City, closure of Educational Institutions, shifting JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik to Central Jail and placing its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house confinement and restricting him from carrying out his socio-religious and political obligations.

The spokesman said these tactics based on mere political vendetta and can’t muzzle or break the resolve of pro-freedom leadership.

The spokesman further expressed grief over the killing of Mugees Ahmed Mir of Parimpora during Zakura shootout and paid rich tributes to him. The spokesman expressed solidarity with the family of the slain youth.

The spokesman said it is because of the lingering Kashmir issue and due to the stubborn and intransigent approach of New Delhi that people of this region continue to suffer. The spokesman said that it is because of Kashmir issue that that the two nuclear powers are in the confrontational mode.

He said that because of repressive measures, youth are being pushed to the wall and many of them are taking to militancy. The spokesman said Delhi must understand the ground realities and take concrete steps to resolve the 70 year old dispute as per the wishes and aspirations of people.
