SRINAGAR

Police on Saturday said that a major incident was averted after the Road Opening Party (ROP) detected an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Bemina, on the Srinagar outskirts.

“The IED was hidden in a pressure cooker,” police spokesman told Kashmir Life.

Traffic on the busy Srinagar Baramulla road was halted from both the sides and it was resumed only after a team of Bomb Disposal Squad  (BDS) defused the IED.

Eyewitnesses said that police and forces personnel suddenly cordoned the area near the power grid station and told civilians to remain far away as an IED was detected.

“The Army convoy was a few kms away from the spot when the IED was detected,” sources said.

The IED was detected a day after militants strike in Kuthua district of Jammu region resulting in an encounter which ended on the death of six people including three militants, two civilians and an army man.
