Government formation in J&K is seemingly imminent as Finance Minister Arun Jaitely’s statement in parliament has renewed activities in Srinagar, Jammu and Delhi. PDP president Ms Mehbooba Mufti has flown to Delhi this afternoon.

“It is being responded positively,” an informed source in PDP said when asked about Jaitley’s statement. “Everything is on track.”

A party insider, however, offered no details if she has any meeting in her schedule.

Another party leader said the “most satisfying” thing is that BJP has not contributed to the “political de-stabilization” of PDP in the last nearly three months which explains that the alliance is working.

Talking off the record, the leader said that Delhi has started delivering already. He said that a team has already done the technical inspection of AIIMS in Kashmir as there is forward movement in restoration of some of the key land pieces from the army to the civilian use. Besides, he said the urban development ministry has started the process of smart city as well.

“Various other developments have taken place and these are not taking place in absolute vacuum,” the leader said. “There is some ease in public finances as well that started after a senior finance ministry official visited our president.”

The leader was unaware of the happenings in the party high command but asserted that his party will positively respond to Jaitely’s statement.

Jaitely had told the Parliament on Monday that Delhi was “willing to walk an extra mile” for J&K. He had assured equitable development of J&K’s all three regions.

“We want to implement Rs 80,000 crore economic package of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for equitable development of the three regions of Jammu and Kashmir,” Jaitley said, while winding up the budget debate. He mentioned setting up IIT, IIM and AIIMS.
