Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed the coldest night of the season on Monday as the mercury dropped at most of the places in the valley, an official of the Met department said.

He said that the Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 0.7 degree Celsius, three degrees below the normal in Srinagar.

“This was the lowest night temperature in the city so far this season,” the Met official said.

The minimum temperature across the Kashmir division, except in Kokernag in South Kashmir stayed below the freezing point owing to the continuous dry weather in the valley which is expected to end this week.

The official said that the Kokernag recorded a low of 3.6 C.

He said the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a minimum of minus 0.6C, while the minimum temperature at Kupwara settled at minus 2.3C.

The mercury in Pahalgam in South Kashmir recorded minus 1.7C, in Leh at minus 4.9C while the nearby Kargil registered a minimum of minus 3.4C, the Met official said.
