Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police South Kashmir, SP Pani to probe the Amarnath Yatra ‘attack’.

The teams, besides, includes SSP Islamabad, Altaf Ahmad Khan.

On Monday late afternoon, a bus carrying Amarnath Yatris came under cross fire between suspected militants and forces at Batengoo village in Islamabad district on Srinagar Jammu highway.

Seven Yatris including two females were killed in the incident while 19 others suffered injuries.

Director General of Police Kashmir Range, Muneer Ahmad Khan had said that the attack was not aimed at the Yatris but the forces personnel.

However, Jammu and Kashmir Police later blamed Lashkar for the attack and said that it was led by their commander, Ismail.

The attack was widely condemned by the civil society of Kashmir, militant outfits including Lashkar-e-Toiba, Hizbul Mujahideen and Jaish-e-Muhammad, besides, resistance leadership.
