SRINAGAR: JKL leader Yasin Malik has been shifted to Central Jail Srinagar within hours after his arrest from Abi Guzar office. The reasons for his arrest were not immediately known.

After the Friday congregation in Abi Guzar’s main mosque was over, a part of the police men raided the JKLF office and arrested Malik. Police also took his aide Bashir Ahmad with him.

The police shifted both the activists to the Srinagar’s Central Jail, according to JKL sources.

Malik is not the first separatist leader who was arrested on the eve of Eid, an occasion that has historically remained associated with the release of prisoners.

A day earlier, police arrested Asiya Andrabi and her colleague Fahmida Mir and shifted them to a Jammu jail. Andrabi, who heads the Dukhteran-e-Milat had moved out of jail only a day earlier after the court granted her bail.

Police arrested Andrabi on May 18 from her Soura residence. After the court quashed the detention under PSA, Ms Andrabi was set free in the court. She was immediately shifted to hospital wherefrom she was again arrested, a day later.
