Srinagar: Young Kashmiri photojournalist Shams Ul Haq Qari’s photo of two Common Kingfishers fighting on the banks of Dal Lake, has been awarded Best nature photography award by InPA (Indian Photography Awards). His photograph was among the top three pictures that were selected at All India Level.

Based in Delhi, Qari presently works with Barcroft media as a multimedia-journalist. He has become first Kashmiri to bag this award.

The Jury panel for the awards included the world renowned photographers, Harish Tyagi, Will Burrand Lucas and Nalla Muthu among others.

“We congratulate Shams Ul Haq Qari for winning the 3rd position in the Annual’16 – InPA Nature Contest, for his image titled ‘Fight for Food’,” InPA said in a statement.

“I took this picture at an ordinary spot on Dal Lake. Studying these beautiful tiny birds for months was indeed worth it. I used to sit there still for hours and hide myself under a jacket even in summer heat. Today, all of that has paid. To those special ones who kept encouraging me all the time, I will never disappoint you,” Qari wrote on his Facebook profile.
