SRINAGAR: Rural Development Minister Abdul Haq Khan on Sunday laid foundation stone of 17 kilometre Khumriyal-Shumriyal-Dooniwari-Surigam road at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore in Kupwara district.

Fulfilling a long pending demand of about a dozen village dwellers, the Minister laid the foundation stone on Saturday at three locations including Khumriyal, Dooniwari and Surigam and the work will be started on these three locations with an aim to complete the work at earliest, an official spokesman said.

The minister said the government aims to increase connectivity in rural areas as connectivity is the first step towards development. He said the up-gradation and renovation of this road was much needed and a long pending of the people and he had promised the people that this road will be build very soon.

Later the Minister participated in the annual day and Parent day celebration of Government Girls High School Divar. There, the minister announced Rs 11 Lakh grant to the High School for the up-gradation of school infrastructure including laboratory and class rooms. On the occasion Minister also distributed sports kits among the girl students and said that the girls should equally take part in sports activities. The minister also distributed an amount of Rs 50000   among meritorious students during the event in different activities.
