SRINAGAR: Ishfaq Padder, the Lashkar-e-Toiba militant who was killed in an early morning “encounter” was actually killed in an ambush, reports from the area said.

Residents said that Padder was apparently coming out an orchard in Tantraypora when the soldiers from the neighbouring Bihibagh camp fired at him. Seemingly, it was surprising swift operation, the reports said. A photograph that has appeared on the facebook shows the slain militant in army fatigue with an AK rifle and a sack of ammunition. Apparently not much of it was used in the incident in which he was killed.

Padder, a resident of neighbourinh Machua village, not far away from Tantraypora, has been with Lashkar for a year now, reports said. Police sources have told media that he was involved in the killing of Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz whom militants had kidnapped from Hermain village in May and later killed.

It was not immediately known if the police have handed over the body of the slain militant to his family for last rites.
