Ruling PDP on Monday lost a berth to its allinace partner BJP as independent lawmaker from Zanskar Syed Bakir Rizvi decided against support it at the last moment, reports said.

Of the six berths, now BJP got three, PDP, NC and Congress one each. The only seat that the PDP won was because the member did not face any opposition and was declared winner uncontested. The party candidate who lost is Abdul Qayoom Dar from Rajouri.

PDP sources said the BJP’s Vikram Randhawa won the seat against Dar though both got 29 votes each. Since both got 29 votes, it was lucky draw that gave BJP the seat. BJP had its 25 votes plus two from Peoples Conference and one nominated. Reportedly Bakar’s vote was taken by BJP.

PDP had its own 28 votes and one nominated and was expecting one vote from BJP and one from independent lawmaker to manage a smooth sailing. That, however, did not take place.

NC and Congress won its berth as Congressman Dalbir Singh polled 31 votes comprising 27 votes of teh two parties and one each from Yousuf Tarigami, Hakim Yasin, , Pawan Gupta and Engineer Rashid, according to party sources. This alliance had already won the candidature of Agha Mehmood unopposed.
