A rare musk deer was Wednesday rescued by a local resident.
Reports said on Tuesday the Musk deer had wandered to Drabhihal village in Verinag’s Kapran area, while being chased by a leopard.
Shabir Ahamad Khan of Drabihal village spotted a musk deer at compartment no 25/V, rescued it, and later handed it over to the wild life authorities.
“While working at brick-klin, I saw a deer running towards the village as it was being chased by a leopard. I somehow managed to shoo away the wild animal and caught the deer,” Shabir said.
The musk deer was later handed over to a team of forest authorities, headed by Verinag range Officer Peerzada Reyaz Ahmed.
“As soon as we got the information about the presence of a Musk deer in Karpan area, we rushed to the spot and rescued the musk deer,” Wildlife Warden Kashmir, M Sadiq, while talking to Kashmir Life said, “It was a male musk deer with one of its teeth broken.”
“We have now shifted the deer to Pahalgam Zoo,” he added.
Notably, musk deer is the most endangered species of deer.
