Srinagar

Media professionals were barred from covering the activities of Government of India’s special representative Dineshwar Sharma maiden visit to the frontier district of Kulgam on Friday.

Local reporters representing various newspapers and news agencies protested outside the District Commissioner Kulgam’s office after they were denied permission to cover the event.

District Administration Kulgam Thursday issued two orders, with the order issued in the morning asking the media to cover the visit while the order issued in the evening barring the media to not cover the visit.

“As communicated earlier by DDC Kulgam Talat Parvaiz no Media coverage would be allowed for tomorrow’s VIP visit,” the order issued in the evening read.

However, in the evening the district administration did a U-turn on the issue and asked the media persons to cover Sharma’s visit but didn’t allow them to enter the DC office premises following which media personnel are now protesting outside the district commissioner’s office.

Sharma has arrived in the town yesterday to interact with various groups of people.

“All the media persons working in the district are informed to cover the interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma’s visit to Kulgam tomorrow at 11.00 am at DC office complex,” the order issued on Thursday morning read.
