MLA Surankote and Congress leader Chowdhary Muhammad Aslam passed away late last night at his residence in Surankot Poonch. He was 70.
Maternal uncle of Forest Minister and National Conference leader Mian Altaf, Aslam represented Surankote six times in the legislative assembly.
Born in 1944, Aslam belonged to village Lassana, Surankote. He studied at Muslim University Aligarh before joining politics.
A former president of state congress, Aslam was appointed speaker pro-term of 2008 and he administered the oath to all elected members of the assembly.
