The first month of Islamic calendar, Muharram, is a sacred month. It symbolises the beginning of the Muslim New Year. The tenth of this month is called day of ‘Ashura’.

In the year 680, in the battle of Karbala, Imam Hussain (RA) along with his 72 companions was martyred by the men of Yazid. Karbala is a place of pilgrimage in Iraq.

CM Mehbooba in her message said Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions at Karbala would continue to remind the mankind about the futility of falsehood and deceit and ultimate victory of truth and uprightness.
