HELD: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Safa kadal, Srinagar. 110 tablets of Stimat (Prachloro Parazine), 90 tablets Alprax (Alprozome) and 26 very small packets of contraband substance which apparently seems to be Brown Sugar (Di-Acetyl Morphine), wrapped in crude paper was recovered from their possession. A case, FIR No. 06/2014, under section 21 NDPS has been registered against them.

HELD: Police have busted a narcotic smuggling gang in Doda and have arrested Fayaz Ahmed Pampori, a journalist working with a New Delhi based channel and a local English daily newspaper along with four drug peddlers. 130 bottles of intoxicants have been recovered from his possession. An FIR under relevant sections has been registered at police station Doda and investigations have started.

ELECTED: Devender Singh Rana was elected unopposed as party’s Provincial President, Jammu. Rana, a close confidant of Omar, was earlier serving as political advisor to the Chief Minister. The function was attended by the party dignitaries including all top state leadership, ministers and legislators. Rana’s name was proposed by S Harbans Singh, Surjeet Singh Slathia, Peer Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari, Aijaz Jan, Qazi Jalal ud-Din, besides 14 District Presidents and 133 Block Presidents. The Electoral College comprised of 2365 delegates.

LOST: JK’s administrative inertia coupled with indifference of the Planning Commission of India (PCI) has taken a toll on the much needed development in the State. Around Rs 2150 crore plan grants have remained unutilized during the last six years even as the fate of another Rs 2064 crore Special Plan Assistance (SPA) earmarked for the current fiscal year hangs in balance. The officials records show, of the Rs 34,750 crores approved by PCI for the State since 2007-08, Rs 32,591 crore have been utilized, leaving around Rs 2150 crore unspent, the documents reveal.

KILLED: Three militants including a commander were killed and two Army men were injured in a gun-battle in Sopore, Baramulla. The operation was led by a joint team of Special Operation Group (SOG) and 22 Rashtriya Rifles. The militants were holed up in residence of Ghulam Hassan Palla in Dooru village of Sopore. The operation was later extended to nearby villages of Marbel, Hard Shiva, Yemberzal, Rishipora, Rampur and Rajpur areas. It was said that Army used helicopters during the searches of the forest area to track the militant group.

QUIT: Sheikh Ghulam Ahmad Saloora, a long time National Conference loyalist, quit the party after serving it for 31 years. While talking to a local newspaper he said, “They (NC) disgraced me by appointing a retired DC-rank officer on my portfolio as provisional secretary; so I decided to quit the party.” Saloora claims to have a core group of 21 members and chances are that he will float a new party.

COMMITTED: Mehraj-ud-Din Guroo, 35, has committed suicide by consuming poison at his home. A resident of Nowpora – Bandipora, Guroo, was shifted to SMHS for treatment, where he passed away. A case has been registered in this regard under relevant sections.

WOUNDED: Owais Ahmad Malik was wounded by a bear near his home in Uri in North Kashmir. Malik, son of Abdul Rashid of Gharkoot was injured in the attack, and he was shifted to Sub District Hospital, Uri for treatment.

AWARDED: Nana Ji Handoo, once a Project Manager DIC Jammu, was awarded two years imprisonment and fine of Rs 20,000 was imposed on him. Handoo was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe from an oil mill owner namely Darshan Lal for issuance of assessment certificate on April 16, 2005.

IMPRISONMENT: Surinder Singh and Manjit Singh were awarded three year imprisonment. The duo was facing trial in attempt to murder case for the last 9 years. These accused persons had attempted to kill priest of a temple on November 27, 2004 over a trifle issue.

SEIZED: The sleuths of Forest Protection Force (FPF) have foiled a major smuggling bid and seized 270 timber logs of felled trees in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. Acting on specific information, a team of FPF led by Deputy Director Zahid Moghal conducted the raids. During the raid, the timber smugglers escaped from the spot and a manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits for felling of trees and smuggling them from the area. A case has been registered in this connection.
