RECEIVED: Atika, 3, a resident of Chenani, Udhampur, received burn injuries under mysterious circumstances at her residence. She was rushed to District Hospital Udhampur and later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where her condition was stated to be out of danger. Police have registered a case and have started investigations.

HANGED: Sushma Kumari, 23, a housewife, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. Family members had rushed her to the hospital but doctors declared her brought dead. A case under relevant section has been registered and investigations have started. Besides, doctors have handed over the body back to her family after conducting the autopsy.

TRIAL: BSF will begin trial of its six men who were allegedly involved in last year’s firing incidents in Jammu’s Gool, Ramban where four people were killed and many others were injured. The BSF authorities found certain “administrative lapses” on the part of its personnel involved in this incident and it will now begin the recording of evidence as Staff Court of Inquiry (CoI) has concluded in the case. It is said that BSF took over the trial from the State Government recently for conducting the proceedings against them under the BSF Act.

DIED: Deep Raj, of Rattian, Jammu, was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Gurudwara at Kotli Arjun Singh, RS Pura. He was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where doctors pronounced him dead. The body has been handed over to family members for last rites after completing legal formalities. A case has been registered at RS Pura police station and investigation started.

ARRESTED: Police have arrested Narinder Singh, son of Joginder Singh of Govindpur, Amritsar along with 500 grams of gold from his possession. Police have filed a case as Singh was carrying the gold without paying the sales tax.

ACQUITTED: Kundan Lal, son of Sham Dass of R S Pura, was acquitted by the Principal Sessions Judge Jammu. Lal was facing trial in murder of his father Sham Dass. Police while registering the case had written that Lal had strangulated his father Sham Dass to death over a property dispute. But the court maintained that “the prosecution has examined 29 witnesses in this case but it is strange that not even a single witness has supported its story”.

SUSPENDED: Sub-Inspector along two other cops were suspended over the death of an ex-serviceman, who had been beaten-up by the police personnel for carrying bottles of Rum from a defence canteen to his house at village Dedpeth, Kishtwar. Besides, a magisterial inquiry has also been ordered into the death.

WON:  State Tug of War team won bronze medal under 560 kgs in mix boys and girls weight category in the 11th senior Federation Cup National Tug of War Championship held at Nasik in Maharashtra. The medal winners included Nisha Rajput, Sapna, Tanuja Kumari, Nuzhat Jaan, Sonia Bharti, Happy Singh, Manoj Kumar, Binder Singh and Kavit Singh. The team was accompanied as Gaurav Sharma as coach and A Kumar as manager.

KILLED: Javed Ahmed alais Salfi, a resident of Bulbul Nowgam, was killed during an encounter which lasted for three hours in Shempora, Qazigund along Srinagar-Jammu highway. Police says Javed was an active militant of Hizbul Mujahedeen, a local militant organization. The encounter was carried in wee hours by 9RR, SOG Islamabad and SOG Kulgam in which residential house of Ghulam Nabi Parray got damaged.

DIED: Aenov Roy, a tourist from Switzerland died in an avalanche in ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, a police official said. Body has been brought to Gulmarg hospital. Besides, two other tourists have been rescued.

APPOINTED: Salman Anees Soz, was appointed as a Congress panel spokesperson. He so far was included in basic membership of Congress for the past seven years but has been participating “actively” in politics since December 2012. Salman, son of JKPCC’s President Saif-ud-din Soz, says he had to face many trials organized by congress party in New Delhi and believes his experience in economics and at the World Bank helped him to bag the post.

DECIDED: Under chairmanship of NN Vohra, Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, a meeting of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, was held in New Delhi. The Board decided that a 44 day Yatra would commence on June 28, an auspicious day as per Hindu calendar and conclude on Raksha Bandhan on August 10, 2014. Considering the present carrying capacity of the tracks and other available infrastructure in the Yatra area, the Board decided that 7,500 Yatris, excluding Yatris who would travel by Heli-copters to Panjtarni, would be allowed to register for the pilgrimage on per day per route basis. The registration process should commence on 1st March 2014.
