Tense situation prevailed along the border in Karnah town of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday evening after armies of India and Pakistan exchanged firing and shelling near Madayan and Toli army posts close to the Line of Control (LoC), Police official said.

The locals of Tangdar, not far from the posts said that they were panicked by the heavy exchange of gunfire that erupted this evening and has been going on continuously.

“The deafening sound of motor shells and firing has panicked the villagers and brought them out of their homes,” reports said.

SHO Police station Tangdar confirmed that the exchange of firing was going on since 8 pm.

He said as of now, no casualties or loss of property has been reported.
