Members of Kashmir Traders Federation (KTF) and Western Bus Stand Association (WBSA) were detained by police Tuesday at press colony over protests against the proposed relocation of General Bus Stand of Batamaloo.

The protesters displayed placards and shouted slogans against the administration for the step, they say, will affect their businesses. The protesters also threatened to intensify agitation if the authorities did not revoke their decision forthwith.

“Commuters will face inconvenience due to this step as they will have to travel long distance to Parimpora to board buses. People coming to Srinagar from nearby villages for various purposes will also face problems in commuting to Parimpora,” one of the protestors said

Pertinently, the government last week cleared the decks for shifting of General Bus Stand from Batamaloo locality to Parimpora near city outskirts. Officials claimed the move is aimed at streamlining the vehicular movement at Batamaloo which witnesses frequent traffic jams.

“This move will affect our businesses,” said Aijaz, a member of Trader Federation. “The rush will be diverted to Parimpora. What will we do then?”
