Police on Monday said they have arrested three militants and an over ground worker in last three days in different militancy related incidents and it has nearly solved certain cases, reports said.

Kashmir Police Chief Muneer Ahmad Khan addressed a presser in which he shared certain details of the follow-up to various militancy related incidents, mostly about southern parts of Kashmir. He said Hizb ul Mujahideen is behind the recent instances of bank robberies. He said the two Hizb groups behind the bank robberies have been identified, already.

On October 14, Khan said militants of Hizb ul Mujahideen attacked police at D H Pora. He said over ground worker Rameez Yatoo was part of the attackers. He has been arrested. Khan said he gave some arms and ammunition too after his arrest.

Besides, police have arrested three militants, one from Hizb and two from LeT from Kund belt of Kulgam, Khan said. The Hizb militant Gulzar Ahmad Dar, he said, was the man responsible for the attack on minister Naeem Akhter’s cavalcade in Tral in which three persons were killed.

“We are after the leadership of the militant outfits because we are so keen to halt the process of fresh recruitment,” Khan said. “Local militants are welcome to surrender. We will accept their surrender even during encounter. We want them to give up militancy and join the mainstream.”

Braid Chopping

Khan said the police is not getting any support from the alleged victims of the braid chopping. Nevertheless, he said, the collection of blood sampling has already been set in motion. Asking people not to get panicky, Khan said certain anti-social elements might be taking advantage of the situation. He said the fear factor has literally caged the womenfolk of Kashmir.
