The Jammu and Kashmir police have registered a case against the lawyers for obstructing Crime Branch from filing charge sheet in Asifa rape and murder case on Tuesday.

FIR has been registered against these lawyers. “Yes we have lodged an FIR and action will be taken against them,” said DGP SP Vaid.

On Monday, a group of lawyers prevented Crime Branch (CB) of Jammu and Kashmir Police from filing charge sheet into rape-and-murder of eight-year-old girl Asifa Bano at Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Kathua.

Meanwhile, former chief minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday welcomed police’s action of lodging FIR against lawyers who were obstructing crime branch officials from filing challan in court against the accused in Kathua minor and rape case.

Taking to social networking website Twitter, Omar wrote: “Good. Lawyers who have no respect for the law deserve to have the full weight of the law books crash down on them”.
