Jammu and Kashmir police personnel have been deprived from Ration Money Allowance (RMA) from past 8 months. Police sources told CNS that an amount of Rs 600 is given to every Policeman up to the rank of Inspector; however, they have not been paid the allowance for last several months.

Sources said that earlier RMA was paid to police personnel on monthly basis and now due to lack of grants and budget deficit, this allowance has been stopped and no police personnel has been provided RMA.

Central Government is continuously paying security personnel this allowance (Rs 1800) but the State Government has been failing to meet the requirements of police personnel as according to reports State is facing financial crunch.

A top police official admitted that deficit in budget is the main reason for not paying RMA to police personnel. He said we need Rs 57 crores to meet this allowance while has Government has provided us only Rs 42 crores. “Besides there is a liability of the last year to the tune of 2 crore, thus taking the total current deficiency to Rs 17 crore”, he said.

The police official said that the matter has been taken up with the Budget Review Team and hopefully, “we would get over this deficiency,” he said.
