SRINAGAR

Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour Wednesday recommended that Casual Artists, Casual Labourers and other contract employees of Radio Kashmir, CBS and DDK Srinagar be regularized and steps to safeguard their legitimate rights be expedited.

In its report submitted to the Parliament today the Committee has castigated the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Prasar Bharati for lack of transparency in hiring and regularization of staff and stressed upon them to expedite service rules and regularization.

Pertinently, the issue was vigorously raised by NC leader and former MP GN Ratanpuri.

The report said, “the Committee’s examination of the subject has revealed some disquieting aspects pertaining to the state of affairs in Radio Kashmir, CBS Radio Kashmir and Doordarshan Kendra, Srinagar which inter-alia include opaque procedure and gross mal practices in the appointment of casual assignees, lack of uniform policies in regularization of the casual announcers/artists/workers, exploitation of the casual workers; disparities in the payment of wages/emoluments to the casual assignees performing similar nature of jobs, payment of wages to these casual assignees for 06 days only though they work for entire month, non-coverage of the casual workers under any social security schemes viz. ESI and EPF, etc.”
