Srinagar

Authorities on Wednesday have sealed all the roads leading to Shopian district of south Kashmir, and have imposed restrictions under Section 144 of the CrPC in some parts of Srinagar ahead of the Joint Resistance Leadership’s ‘Shopian Chalo’ call against the recent killings in Shopian.

Earlier, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), including  Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik had called for the Shopian chalo to express solidarity with the families of six persons, including two militants and four civilians killed in army firing on Sunday.

Consequently, restrictions  have been imposed in the old city area and some uptown areas here to “maintain law and order.”

Schools, colleges and universities have been closed. All examinations scheduled for Wednesday stand postponed.

The Jammu and Kashmir police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel have been deployed in large numbers to maintain law and order in sensitive areas in the area.
