Saudi government’s refusal to entertain the degrees awarded by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has left hundreds of Kashmiri students in lurch.

Waseem Ahmad, a job aspirant while talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) said, “I have done Masters in Computer Applications (MCA) through IGNOU. Though I was selected by one of the reputed companies of Saudi Arabia for a job, when I submitted my degrees the Embassy rejected it and told me IGNOU degrees are not valid in Saudi Arabia.”

“I apprised the IGNOU authorities about the matter but they are acting as mute spectators,” he added.

A group of students who had done their degrees from IGNOU and are presently working in Saudi Arabia said that the authorities there have directed them to leave the country on the grounds that they have done degrees through IGNOU.

IGNOU authorities say that they have taken up the matter with the Saudi Government. “It is a fact that some IGNOU pass outs have complained about the matter but the matter will be solved soon,” one of the officials of the IGNOU said.

The aggrieved aspiring youth have made a fervent appeal to the Governor N N Vohra, to intervene in the matter to save their career.
