1. Huawei Maitree Scholarship Program for Indian Students in China

Huawei offers Huawei Maitree scholarship for Indian students tenable for the academic year 2013 – 2014. Under this program, total ten scholarships are available for Indian students to pursue graduate and postgraduate studies at credible and reputed institutions in China. The scholarships are awarded preferably in the emerging areas of science and technology, culture and social studies and development related programs.

The scholarships will cover the student’s full tuition fee and living expenses for the duration of his or her study in China. Applications can be submitted online by 1st July, 2013.

Scholarship Description: In its endeavor to foster the spirit of innovation and scholarship in every discipline, Huawei has instituted “Huawei Maitree Scholarship Program 2013? to aid Indian undergraduate and graduate students who wish to pursue higher studies in China. This initiative aims at bringing about a better understanding, appreciation and friendship between the youth of India and China. Under this scholarship program, 10 scholarships will be provided every year to select Indian students for undergraduate and post graduate studies in China.

Under this scholarship program, 10 scholarships will be provided every year to select Indian students for undergraduate and post graduate studies in China.

Duration of award(s): The duration of scholarship will be for one academic year, renewable for every new academic session till the completion of the course. For renewal of scholarship, the recipient will have to satisfy the criteria of 80% marks in the previous academic year.

What does it cover?

Each scholarship covers the student’s full tuition fee and living expenses for the duration of his or her study in China.

2. UNU-IAS PhD Fellowship Programme for Researchers of Developing Countries in Japan, 2013

United Nations University, Institute of Advanced Studies offers PhD Fellowships Programme for young scholars and policy-makers in Japan. Candidate must be at the dissertation writing stage of their PhD with a research proposal, English proficiency is a must. Research proposals are invited in Science and Technology for Sustainable Societies, Sustainable Urban Futures, Biodiplomacy Initiative, Sustainable Development Governance, Traditional Knowledge Initiative and Marine/Coastal Governance and Urban Biodiversity (UNU-IAS OUIK).

The fellowship is awarded for 12 months. The fellowship cover monthly stipend of 260,000 Japanese Yen, allowances, accommodation, airfare and other expenses.

Study Subject(s): Research proposals for UNU-IAS PhD Fellowships should therefore relate clearly to one of the current research areas of the Institute, as well as aim to be policy relevant. -Fellows are provided with their own desk in a dedicated study room in the Institute, administrative support and desktop computing.

-Fellows have access to the UNU Library in Tokyo which includes an excellent collection of UN documents. They also have access via the UNU Library to various Japanese university libraries and computer databases.

-A limited range of other, more specialised computer hardware and software may also be available.

-Fellows carry out their research in Yokohama under the supervision of a UNU-IAS faculty member.

-Fellows will spend about half of their working hours on their dissertation and the remaining half assisting the Institute’s projects and activities.

Scholarship Description:

UNU-IAS offers PhD Fellowships to candidates in the last stages of their dissertation process to broaden their perspectives to other related scientific fields, and to expose them to international policy-making circles. So far, more than 90 Fellows from some 50 countries have passed through the PhD Fellowship Programme. Of those completing the programme, about one third have been women, and developing country participants have outnumbered developed country participants.

3. SICRISA Fellowships for Researchers in South Asia

Applications are invited for a two year SICRISA (Support to Improve Climate Research and Information Services in South Asia) project which is funded by the UK Department for International Development. This project is available for the researchers from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal or Pakistan who are working on any aspect of climate change research. 20 fellowships are available and 15 participants will be selected for each of two writing workshops which will be held in April-May 2013 in Delhi and Dhaka. Interested applicants can apply either for a residential workshop or a fellowship but not for both.

Applications are open to researchers who are working on any aspect of climate change research.

Eligibility:

-be working on climate change, preferably in relation to the South Asia region (which may extend beyond the four focus countries to other parts of South Asia), or, if appropriate, doing work on climate change beyond the region;

-have excellent English in order to benefit from the fellowship or writing workshop, and to have an enhanced chance of success in publishing in an English-language journal.

Scholarship Description:

Climate change researchers from South Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan) are invited to apply to participate in a new fellowship programme or a residential writing workshop to be held in South Asia in 2013. Through fellowships and residential writing workshops, South Asian scientists (including social scientists) will be trained and supported to Publish in peer reviewed journals, Write for different types of publication aimed at a range of audiences, Increase their influence on policy, Raise the profile of their research through the media.

The project is managed by a group of four institutions, all with considerable experience of capacity-building activities (including running writing workshops and supporting and mentoring authors for various types of publications), producing and editing special issues of journals on climate related issues, and working with scientists and the media to improve communication and understanding. These are Institute of Development Studies (IDS), UK (lead partner), The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), India, Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), Sweden, International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD), Bangladesh

Number of award(s): 20 fellowships are available, and 15 participants will be selected for each of two writing workshops.

Selection Criteria: Preference will be given to applicants who score well on the relevant criteria:

-have a research activity that can be considered for support to produce a publication during the period of the Fellowship. The quality of the research and proposed paper will be the main criteria for successful application.

-are in early or mid-career. Those in more senior positions may apply if they can demonstrate that it would significantly increase their contribution to science through peer review publication;

-have already demonstrated capacity to publish by having appeared in a non-international journal, working paper or other format;

– (where relevant) have recently completed a doctoral thesis from which a publication is a significant possibility

4. INSPIRE Scholarships in Natural & Basic Sciences for Bachelor and Master’s Students in India

Department of Science & Technology (DST) under Ministry of Science and Technology announces Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) scholarships. Under this scheme 10,000 scholarships of Rs. 80,000/- each are announced annually for students pursuing bachelors and masters level courses in Basic and Natural Sciences. The candidates should be 17 to 22 years of age at the time of application.

Study Subject(s): The scholarship is provided to learn Basic and Natural Sciences.

Course Level: This scholarship is for pursing Bachelors and Masters program.

Eligibility:

-Students with aggregate marks within top 1% of their Class XII examination of any State/ Central Board in India are eligible.

-Student must be pursuing courses in Natural and Basic Sciences at the B.Sc. or Integrated M.Sc. level. Natural and Sciences include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology and Earth Sciences.

-Students who have secured in the Joint Entrance Examination of IIT top 10,000 ranks, AIEEE (top 10,000 ranks) plus those clearing AIPMT (top 10,000 ranks), and who also opt to study Natural and Basic sciences in any academic institute or university leading to graduate and post-graduate degree, would be eligible for scholarship.

-Those students who have secured ranks in the JEE of IIT, AIEEE, CBSE Medical (within top 10000 ranks), and are presently pursuing Natural and Basic Science courses in India.

Scholarship Description:

Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) is a component program under Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) program, which is a flagship scheme of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, to engage young talents for the study of Science and Technology and pursue research as a career. SHE aims to augment youth to undertake higher education in Science programmes by providing scholarships to deserving students. Under this scheme SHE, 10,000 scholarships, each valued at Rs. 80,000/- are announced annually for students pursuing Bachelors and Masters level courses in Basic and Natural Sciences.

Number of Awards: 10,000 scholarships are awarded.

Duration of Awards: Selected candidates will be supported for a maximum period of five years starting 1st year course in B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons) and integrated course leading to M.S. or M.Sc.

Each scholarship valued at Rs. 80,000/- are announced annually for students pursuing bachelors and masters level courses in Basic and Natural Sciences.
