In a brief gunfight at Pahnoo area of Shopian district, the death toll is four, one militant and three civilians.

The slain militant has been identified as Shahid Ahmad Dar S/o Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, a resident of Jamnagri, Shopian.

The three other civilians have been identified as Suhail Ahmad Wagay, a resident of Pinjoora,  Shahid Ahmad Khan of Malikgund and Shahnawaz Wagay, a resident of Trenz.

Giving details of the incident, the army spokesman said militants fired upon a joint Mobile Vehicle Check Post near Pohan, Shopian and in the retaliatory fire a militant and three others have been killed.

“A joint Mobile Vehicle Check Post near Pohan (Shopian ) was fired upon by terrorists at 2000 hrs from a vehicle. In retaliatory firing, one terrorist identified as Shahid Ahmad Dar S/o Mushtaq Ahmad Dar R/o Jamnagri, Shopian was killed and a weapon has been found with him. Also, the three OGWs/ accomplices in the car who were accompanying the terrorist were found to be dead,” the army spokesman said.

However, locals contested the claims of the army and said the three slain men are civilians killed by the army.

As reports reaching Kashmir Life newsroom, around 250 people are protesting in the area. The exact details of the incident are still not fully known. Wherefrom the Swift car had come and where it was going and has there been any other person in the car, and if it was being chased or was it chasing somebody are some of the details still not known.

Police have reached the spot. Wishing anonymity, a police officer said: “We are investigating the matter and as of now don’t have the exact details and affiliations of the three other slain men.”

Students in Kashmir University have also come out to protest the killing. A student told Kashmir Life over the phone that intense sloganeering is going on in the campus.

Meanwhile, the internet services have been snapped in Shopian district.
