Continuing with its sealing drive on the third consecutive day today, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) today sealed eight illegal structures at Shalteng HMT.

Chief Enforcement Officer Hakeem Aijaz who has been heading the drive since last three days  along with the entire enforcement team had to face  strong resentment and stone pelting from the locals and women folk of the area, an SMC statement issued to a local news agency, KNS, reads.

The drive had to be called-off more than three times to maintain law and order at the site. However the team with the assistance of SHO Parimpora succeeded in sealing all the eight master plan violating structures out of which five were commercial complexes

In view of the orders passed by the High Court dated 30.9.13, in OWP No. 5/2013 titled Mujeeb Andrabi V/S State of J&K and others, SMC has been implementing the orders in letter and spirit and subsequently the compliance report has been today submitted before the High Court as per the directions issued on said subject said Joint Commissioner SMC Bashir Ahmed.

Earlier, 18 structures including hotels and huge commercial complexes were sealed at Jawahar Nagar, Gogji Bagh, nine in Karanagar, Shaheed Gunj area, one at Malla Bagh, one at Hyderpora.

A total of 37 structures out of 39 were sealed down by SMC. Whereas two structures one at Jawahar Nagar and other at Hyderpora had to be left unsealed due the stay order passed by High Court in the said cases the SMC statement added.
