Sonamarg Development Authority dismantles illegal constructions, gears up for ‘cleaning drive’

Sonamarg Development Authority, in its efforts to make the tourist destination eco-friendly, is gearing up for an intense demolition cum cleaning drive. The authority has already removed the wastage and dismantled structures, shops which were constructed since years near the bank of Thajwas river along the tourist destination area of Ganderbal.

The demolition cum clearing drive which was monitored by Chief Executive Officer (SDA) Shabir Ahmad Raina, was launched by SDA Field squad casual labours besides officials of Sonamarg development Authority. The area is important for tourists, during the endeavor of SDA field squad the entire pasture land of Sonamarg underwent sanitation and raised unauthorized shops to ground on the orders of Hon’ble High Court, so that tourist enjoy fully here, it said.

SDA also urged the locals, shopkeepers to support the department’s efforts to maintain cleanliness at Sonamarg bowl, market places and refrain from throwing waste in designated place and to avoid carless behaviour like constructing structure on illegal basis which might harm the ecosystem and violation of High Court orders, they said.

“Thajwas area has been cleared by removing the already dismantled structures by SDA, itself to have feel of eco-friendly environment. In a good move by daily wagers of SDA besides officials full of wastes and the wastage of already dismantled structures were picked up from the destination and were transported to safer place. Altogether SDA field squad including officials of the department participated in such drive with great enthusiasm and dedication,” the SDA said in a statement.

The department has already informed all the hoteliers, shopkeepers not to violate the High Court rules and there is no any permission to built any kind of structure within Sonamarg area. The department also said that Tipper, load carrier should not carry construction material in the prohibited area of Sonamarg, which according to them is the violation of High Court orders.
