The encounter led to the killing of two militants who have been identified as Nayeem Ahmad of Brath Kalan Sopore and Ashiq Hussain of Andergam Pattan.

Police said they have recovered two AK47 rifles and one INSAS. “We believe the service rifle was looted at some place from the security forces,” a police official said. “We are verifying to which force it belonged to.”

Police said they will be handing over the bodies of the slain militants to the respective families. They said the handover follows a process which will take a bit of time. The encounter started during early hours at Chak-e-Brat village that falls in the Shankargund Brat belt when police started searching the area. Police said they have clear information about the militants. The house belonging to Peerzada Bashir Ahmad Shah went up into smoke during the encounter.

Authorities have snapped mobile internet in the entire belt and the police and paramilitary has been deployed to prevent escalation of the tensions.
