Three civilians sustained injuries after Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged heavy firing in north Kashmir’s Uri Sector on Monday.

Reports said that Pakistani troops targeted Indian posts of 17 Jat regiment along LoC at Pika Post in Uri at 15:30 hours.

“The fire was retaliated and continued intermittently till late in the evening,” they said.

During the clash, three civilians said to have sustained injuries and have been hospitalized.

Meanwhile, Army’s Srinagar based defence spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia confirmed the incident.

“Unprovoked ceasefire violation initiated by Pakistan posts in Uri sector at 17:15 hours. Own troops retaliating appropriately, unconfirmed reports indicate causality on Pak troops”, the spokesperson said.

He said that Pak posts now targeting civilian population in Churanda village near Line of Control.

When reports last came in, the intermittent exchange of cross-border firing was going on. (GNS)
